Both the Huffington Post and CBS News is reporting that we may soon hear an announcement from Paula Deen that she has Type 2 diabetes. Mrs. Deen is a celebrity chef in her early 60's who is known for creating good old fashioned Southern meals -- comfort food if you will -- some which are high-fat, sugary, and butter laden. While there are a number of factors that can contribute to diabetes, being overweight and eating an unhealthy diet are thought to be strong contributors.
Recently, Paula's son, Bobby has been seen promoting healthier food options. We've seen his new series launched early this month on the Cooking Channel, entitled "Not My Mama's Meals". These meals are supposed to be inspired by her mother's home-cooking Southern recipes, but are less fatty version.
It's interesting to note that Paula's own website has a few healthier recipes listed currently. For one, there's the lighter hash brown quiche, stating it's a lighter look at Paula Deen's tasty recipes of quiche. There's also a coconut chicken dish with pineapple salsa, which is touted as a lighter, crunchier version. The caption below states that the Bobby and Jamie eliminate hundreds of calories and added a tropical aspect to Paula's popular chicken fingers recipes.
It is being reported that Paula Deen plans to set the record straight about her diabetes rumors in an interview with Al Roker of the TODAY Show. Reportedly, the interview will air next Tuesday, January 17th. Rumors of Paula having diabetes starting swirling last year.
We all wish Paula well, and hope she can keep her diabetes under control.
