Chocolate has a long history of being a favorite food, but has recently fallen out of favor as concerns about sweets has increased. Perhaps it is time to rethink the role this delicacy has in our modern diets.
In addition to lowering insulin resistance, chocolate lowers blood pressure, reduces the risk of stroke and can even reduce the risk of preeclampsia in pregnancy. Maybe that’s why I never had to worry about preeclampsia with my pregnancies. I knew there was a reason for all those chocolate cravings!
It seems as though every day, more information is coming out about particular foods, so it can be confusing to know what to eat and what to avoid. I think adhering to as natural a diet as possible will almost always be beneficial, because it is the processed foods that seem to be causing a majority of our health issues.
In any case, a diet rich in common sense and moderation is the best way to stay healthy, with a healthy side serving of natural, unprocessed foods fresh from nature. After this new research, we now know we can add chocolate back to the list, so I suggest we all get cooking – a treat is in order!
